Brigid lived in the 5th century and from her youngest years showed an interest in religious life. She was inspired by St. Patrick, who had baptized her parents. Brigid founded several monasteries and even a school of art. Together with St. Patrick, Brigid is the patron saint of Ireland. She is often portrayed with a lamp and fire, symbols for learning and the wisdom she carried.
