In 1859, northeast of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Our Lady of Good Help appeared to a young Belgian woman named Adele Brise. In response to Mary’s call to teach the faith to children, Adele began teaching at homes across the largely unsettled region. A chapel and school were soon built. The National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion, Wisconsin, is now the only Marian shrine in the U.S. on the site of an approved apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
