Elizabeth Ann Seton was born in 1774 and is the very first American saint. She lived a difficult life of loss and personal challenges, including the death of her husband only a few years after marriage. Finding peace in faith, Seton became a Catholic in 1805. Her most significant impact came from her work in education and in developing The Rule of the Sisterhood.
