Born in 741 near Belgium, St. Amelia was preparing to become a nun when she caught the attention of the infamous Charlemagne. Wanting to retain her purity, she once struggled with him to the point that he broke her arm. It was miraculously healed and Charlemagne relented. Legend has it that Amelia later crossed the nearby Schelde River on the back of a fish! Arriving in Temsche, she founded a church and became known for her virtue and miracles. Her feast day is July 10.
