St Cosmas & St Damian Medal, Patron Saints of Pharmacists

Pewter medal of the Catholic saints Cosmas and Damian, nickle and lead free, made in Italy. 

Saints Cosmas and Damian were two doctors, reputedly twin brothers, born in Arabia and early Christian martyrs. They practiced their profession in the seaport of Aegeae, then in the Roman province of Syria. They were very well-respected in the area, and in the spirit of charity, they never took payment for their services. They were martyred for their faith in the Christian persecutions around 283. 

Cosmas & Damian are best known as patron saints of pharmacists, although they are also patrons of surgeons, dentists, protectors of children, day care centers, orphanages and children in the house.
