by Heliodoro Lucatero

As human beings, we tend to be creatures of habit. So, when changes come along to our usual routine, as they inevitably do, they can provoke some questions and concerns.

As the Catholic Church revises the Roman Missal, you may have some questions:
Why is there a new translation?
Why are changes being made?
Who makes those changes and what criteria do they use?
What are the actual changes?

This book will seek to answer these important questions, as well as to give some insight into the history of the development of the Roman Missal from early Church times, through the Middle Ages, through the different Church councils, and up to the present day. A comparison of each change features old and new text side-by-side with the changes highlighted in bold type. Both the presider's texts and the assembly's texts will be addressed.

Like any language or form of expression, liturgy is both dynamic and evolving. However, it is also rich in history and tradition. By looking at the changes being made in the new translation of the Roman missal, this book will help the reader understand why our liturgy continues to be both a new tradition and a living tradition.
